Dental Crowns and a Shakti Vortex of Supreme Splendor

Hello Coach,

Hope all is well with you and your family. i know you are very busy but i value your opinion towards health and fitness related issues. i am supposed to get a crown on my tooth that contains metal. If it were you, would you get it??? any TAF about this would be greatly appreciated.

i have done some reading about this topic and the crown is made and supposed to be put on my tooth tomorrow. i don't like the idea of metal toxins in my mouth. WHAT DO I DO??

Anyway, sorry if this is a weird question for you and i will not keep you anymore

Thanks

KEEP CRANKIN

COACH RESPONDS:
Most Precious Warrior Vito,

reschedule the appointment.

checking with one of my bros who is a very accomplished peridontist.

oh, and don't worry too much...ilg's own teeth are chock full of mercury fillings that have been in my teeth since i was a punk.
well, i'm still a punk...i meant to say, when ilg was a teenager. the only side effects ilg has noticed from the mercury seepage into my
system is a nearly complete incapacity to remember anything.

then again,
that is kinda a Blessing...
it helps keep ilg
Here Now!

;-)

more info when i get it,
ilg

ps: i'll tell you right now however, that keeping on the MAP Aminos, SUNRIDER Herbs Phase Two, and EMR will pretty much mitigate all toxicity within the cellular body; be it from fillings, environment, or anything else!

Heron Lake, New Mexico...just another secret gem of The Land of Enchantment

click on pics to enlarge the Chi Hit

Northern New Mexico past weekend:
ilg family re-union (re-yoga)

location: Heron Lake, New Mexico

all photos and text by ilg

this offering is devoted to the Fish Beings...

looking north over El Vado Reservoir in northern New Mexico...a scant 1.50 hours from Durango, Colorado.

Should one sincerely undertake (take-under) the Teachings of all the great spiritual paths of the world? It would become quickly apparent that there is within us an ocean of resolve, of power, of wisdom and compassion...

Evening Brahmamuhurti over El Vado.

The power of what CHrIst called the Kingdom of Heaven is the search for Enlightenment. Remember Noble Yogin; Enlightenment is not about OUR endless Joy....it is about transforming not only ourselves but the world around us.

my dad.
6:00 am outside our fishing lodge last Saturday.
a chain-smoking, one-fingered yogi of the endless Stalwart Warrior since he was 14; his Message lies not in his addictive self,
rather in his immutable love for his family and the natural world...

finally, my Dad caught more fish than both of his sons and found his Chi once again here, closing in on 80 years old, up in these sacred pinon-studded, water infested high mountain lands of Northern New Mexico.
my dad still stands on his feet Serving at Wal-Mart garden shop in Rio Rancho, New Mexico from 5 am to 4 pm.
5-6 days per week.

Brazos cliffs (great moderate free climbing!) and Heron Lake in the foreground all within virga.
Little wonder why Yogi Christ was a fisherman.

Has there ever been a time when the clear use of this sacred power was more essential or more urgent?

the Ilg Clan men from L-R; me, my dad, and my younger brother, Craig.
we set the new season record at Heron Lake with 13 kokanee taken before 12 noon.
i had visualized success for my Dad especially, this trip was hugely important for him
to bond with his two sons.

Brahman smiled and Graced us with a bounty exceeding even
my visualizations. we ate our catch and these Precious Fish Beings which offered us their Give Away
were absolutely delicious...5 star delicious...and the POWER within their precious flesh was
AMAZING!

the state record for Lake Trout was taken here at Heron Lake; 34lbs!
Lake Trout in New Mexico! can you believe it?
for the best guide: Don Wofley

Has there ever been a time when it was more vital to understand the nature of this pure power and how to channel it and how to use it for the sake of the world?

i spent the rest of my day with my niece; Ella and nephew; Alazar. here, they show off the fossils which we found along the shores of this amazingly beautiful slice of New Mexico...

shots of an Anasazi replica pueblo my brother and Ella and Alazar made...like Chaco Canyon, the replica pueblo centered around Grandfather Sun's appearance to the Brazos Cliffs. Craig is an architect in Albuquerque; thus the beautiful precision of the stonework...

ilg TAF's* not.

Crestone Peak (far left) and the highly sought after summit of the Crestone Needle (center spire), and the massif of Marble Mountain with Dune in front. let ilg tell you, a long meditation was required to stay put to get this shot for you! thank you Ananda and Dewa for your patience with ilg's devotion to his Sangha.

This traverse on mossy, slick granite over a very churning and snow-cold Zapata creek toward the gushing Zapata Falls made both ilg and Amma Ananda a bit nervous...looks like Dewa is a bit edgy, as well! does ilg love anything more than a hidden waterfall during spring runoff?

i TAF not much!

* TAF is a traditional WF Aphorism for: "Think And Feel"... when a WF Student says "i TAF..."
it means that he or she has not just 'thought' about something before saying, rather, he or she has run it through both sides of the brain...the Thinking Brain and the Feeling Brain...the Yin and the Yang...the analytical and the poetic...the male and female...hey, what can ilg say? WF ain't just "Kettleball training."

From Tride...with love

Telluride, Colorado -

sittin' here in the five star lounge of The Peaks Resort after a very INTERESTING day of shooting footage for my intended, "WF Strength Training Teachings" DVD.

i'm looking out over Wilson Peak in alpenglow at sunset.

there is, simply, no other place like Tride.

period.

this morning, my lone Assistant called in sick with the flu.

trained in Chenreezig, of course, i felt compassion for both my intended assistant and my amazing contacts at The Peaks Resort who placed their beautiful gym on VIP status for my humble video filming (ilg TAFs that they thought we were gonna blow into their gym with like a ESPN Crew with all sorts of lights and make up and stuff.) Nope. Just me and Ananda...and Dewa.

Note To Shiva, thank you for endlessly grounding and re-grounding my attempts to channel the Divine Power of the Highest Mountain Yogis to the West through feeble ilg...it's been a hilarious and testing and absolutely Blessed Journey!

Plan B; default to pure chi as always:
Ananda and i shot great footage for your DVD (least i pray that you will buy one!)...in between watching Most Precious Jewel of a Rinpoche Dewachen as She bounded off rebounders, climbing onto Squat Racks, and generally made the Iron Temple at this most luxurious resort, well, a Temple as it should be; totally Fun, Present, and Limit Testing.

no pics just yet,
just let ilg say that ilg hit this most precious mountain retreat resort at the most stunning time of autumn...our precious Aspen Beings (which may not last the life of my daughter due to Human Being's avidya) are changing in a slow motion wave of stunning colors, and i promise you'll see a teaser of this priceless display on my new DVD.

along with a whole ton of WF chi...
that i know you have counted upon,
and still count upon
each day,
in the most strangest of ways,
to keep you
- and i -
- and my own family -
centered within what matters most...

the infinite Sacredness of Realizing The Preciousness Of THIS M(om)ent...
these lungs,
these ankles,
this Mind Wave,
this smile,
this anger arising;
this confused emotional turbulence...

Noble Seekers of Wholeness...permit feeble ilg to say this much:

it's ALL SACRED
and there is a profound reason why the word, "sacred"
is so similar to the word, "scared".

cuz,
truly,
if we are not scared,
we ain't gonna find
what's truly
Sacred
to our next bec(om)ing.

tomorrow: more filming; from the seat of our pants
in the amazing Iron Temple at The Peaks Resort
Telluride, Colorado
blazing
in a firewave of aspen and autumn colors a'changin'...

Blessed Be All,
Blessed Be Thy Workout...

Toward Wholeness, Noble Ones...
Toward Wholeness...
nothing less.

Snapshots and a Sutra from New Mexico; Plus a WF Challenge!

text and photos by steve ilg

What are the whispers shared by ducklings
as their feet paddle in frenzied manner
within the velveteen wake of their Mother?
Family Yoga might best be learned from the wild animals.

photo; Early morning last week; Red River Lake, NM.

When family comes to gather,
ilg advises;
buckle up thy Practice, Oh Noble Seeker Of Wholeness!
Cuz, inevitably, the fortresses of our mental composure
and emotional equanimity surely shall be tested by
an unequivocal barrage of interpersonal dynamics.

ilg knows you know what i mean.

Today's Teaching is about that most difficult, advanced
Practice of all;
Family Yoga.

And Family Yoga is perhaps the highest litmus test of
the state of our Practice.

So, buckle up and bring it!

In this Teaching, i share with you my most-relied upon Yoga Sutra of Patanjali's
to help my feeble Practice retain a degree of mastery while involved
in family gatherings.

photo; my dad and i designed this Family Gathering so we might be able to go fishing. The fact that it was my parents' 55th Anniversary seemed secondary to my dad. Trout were the priority.

Arjuna Program Q&A - ilg on the road

click on pics to enlarge...

Dewa and injured daddy ilg the other day at the Pagosa Mineral Hot Springs. the Native name of my old h(om)etown - Pagosa - means, "Healing Waters" and after my high-speed mountain bike racing crash last Saturday, i truly put these collective pools of ancient healing hot springs to the test...and, they produced an incredible healing effect upon my road rash and deep bone contusions. though yogi squatting continually throughout the day alongside Dewa is painful, keeping my skin and repairing connective tissue moving through big range of functional movements is imperative to 100% healing. many athletes make the mistake of too little movement (cause it hurts) while healing. unless you move like a toddler while healing deep scrapes and bruises, the resultant connective fabric matures into a restrictive mal-aligned gross 'pile of fiber spaghetti.' gotta keep moving, no matter how much it hurts.

below, i take this traveling opportunity to address some important training variables which arise from a new Online Student who is giving the "Arjuna Ayama Program" a go. May this exchange below, help your own studies and practice. above photo by Ananda.

Coach Wins Pagosa Duathlon! Crashing and Cranking

(note: photo may only appear for DL Subscribers)
Yup, pulled another "Ned Overend" outta my bag of tricks...winning the Pagosa Mountain Duathlon Full Course, teaching the young bucks a thing or two about wholeness and longevity! look closely at my right elbow...

Namaste Noble WF Sangha,

just wanted to let you all know that ilg is doing just great...sore (not 'well trained') but great. the rumor is true, i did manage to win overall the Pagosa Mountain Duathlon Full Course on Saturday and also managed to go down super hard on a big chainring gravel forest road at probably about 35mph. i thought i was in about 3rd place and had just gotten passed by this guy with sloppy posture and that pissed me off (i did not know that he was not in the solo divison)...so i was absolutely maching it and apparently hit a water erosion gully in the flat light of the ponderosa-shaded road...and next thing i knew, i was down. hard. i recall skidding for what seemed an eternity on my back and side, wondering to myself, "Wow, i wonder when i'm ever gonna come to a stop."

before that though, the very instant i hit the deck - and trust me, ilg has hit the deck probably harder than you, many more times than you - my first thought was one single word and an image to go with it:
"Dewa."

lemme tell ya, being a new daddy and still out there pushing my limits in such sports like mountain duathlon...when you do go down hard, your entire paradigm shifts. used to be just fine for me to crash...now? not so okay.

now, when you do go hard and hear your bones crushing, organs stretching, and skin ripping off you, the warrior has one single instant to choose one of two attitudes after a heart-stopping crash: you let it dismantle you,
or
you can let it empower you.

more on that a bit later...right now, i can't seem to post the great, gnarly pics of your coach's road rash - which is probably a good thing - and i've got a family to attend to as we continue our Southwest Walkabout.

just wanted you all to know ilg is just fine; in fact, i've got a ton of empowering teachings and pics to share with you DL Subscribers soon...including my Priority Practice For Ripped Off Skin And Ooozing Warrior Wounds. You might be surprised at how fast your ol' cat of a coach can:
1) crash hard and jump back up like a cat and STILL WIN OVERALL!
and
2) how fast i can still tell the Medics that, "No, i don't need stitches...i just need to do some yoga," and heal a ripped wound 500% overnight.

dat's why we all gotta git out there and toe those Start Lines in our life...be brave enough to push your limits against formidable opponents - physical and metaphysical...cuz that is the ONLY WAY to Learn the Teachings Of Intensity.

and when you and i take that Last Gasp, and are unable to Inhale again?

trust me, it's gonna be Intense.

so train your Awareness and Equanimity in the field of Yogic Intensity, which means of course, using that age-old maxim of WF, knowing that your
Highest Workout is Everywhere...
it's right here,
in the softness of your eyes while reading this,
the elegance of your posture,
the openness of thy hips,
and
the
kindness
which comes from thy lips...

Wishing your Practice all the Highest...

be back right here soon,
cuz,
coach loves you when you sweat and sit still..

head bowed,

your bruised chieftain from the top step of the podium

Camping With Family; A Practice For Awakening The Heart

a moving entry from coach as he himself moves further into
what he calls his, "Domestication of a wild warrior," during
a camping trip last week. beautiful photos from:
Clear Creek Campground, Arizona
Jerome, Arizona.

a couple of excerpts:

If we wish our children to have much,
we must show them how to enjoy having little.
Deny children the dirt and wetness of Mother Earth,
and we teach separateness from the start.
Treat our children with an agenda set upon nothing
save for that which they themselves set
and each thing becomes a natural teaching in the Tao.

bent, as if in humble prayer,
Ananda stands in a wet place
among the unhurried current,
living now in a world of expression and faith
for her child
who must learn to swim in this world of
forms.
The new mother wonders,
why her own mommy never went into the woods with her...
to have her touch the altar of dirt, grass, wood, and stone.
Above their splashing,
an Oriole sings to the tasks we all must face.

Oh Lord,
in these cloudless skies above Jerome,
let my own longing for enlightened life in all Her unified strands
stand as Teacher for my daughter...
let the domestication of my wild warrior nature
take flight even as does Eagle Brother soar
and may my actions be brave and kind and pure
as the Rose
or the Bristlecone above timberline.

so much more...

Off To Tsidool; My Pilgrimage of Sacred Mountain Sweat

i can barely grok the fact that today i climb into Bala - who'll be packed like a Grand Canyon Mule with skis, bike, snowshoes, and cold weather gear - and head east across my beloved sparse, high desert to contest the Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon which has by now, become an ilg signature event. it's been a twenty year pilgrimage of mine. this event has become for me, a barometer of my self-healing from a broken spine and torn pelvis in 1981. my annual journey up and down Tsidool (the Sacred "Turquoise Peak" of the indigenous clans which still live atop and around the sandstone canyons and sagebrush arroyos at her base) remains a perfect remedy against my pedal-to-the-metal obsessive traits which i try so hard to bring into Wholeness through my professional and personal Pathway. Tsidool demands me to slow down my mind as i train each year for her. my fitness must reflect what i love most; versatility.

i feel as fit as this WF New Daddy can feel.

what is common about this year from last is my winter-fitness. i'll be confident as soon as i finish the Bike Up and Run Up and get to click into my cross country skis. i ready to torch the two snow events; the Ski and Snowshoe.

Ready to Do The Shoe -
- last year on the 1-mile, 600' Snowshoe Course
08 stats:
Shoe Up = 26:28
Shoe Down = 10:24

i've only done one Snowshoe Race this year and finished well, though off the podium. i'll again be going with my specially mounted Kahtoola Snowshoe. usually, by the time i reach the lofty air of the Snowshoe Section, which goes up to Tsidool's summit and back down, i'm usually so God-And-Kachina Spirit Intoxicated, i could care less how much pain i'm in. all i focus on is crushing the descent once my uphill events have been completed.

- 2007; on the 2-mile, 1,200' Ski Course
08 stats:
Ski Up = 39:00
Ski Down = 15:58

early this month i won a classic-style ski race and last evening, after pre-fatiguing my legs by alpine skiing in our fresh dump of 24", i returned to the Alpine Area this time to run a final threshold test for Mt. Taylor. the data came back great:

probably more a testimony to superior conditions, not so much my superior fitness
but i ripped my Roundtrip PR from Car to Car;
skinning from the lower parking lot (9,500') to the top of agassiz lift (11,500') and ripping off the skins and skiing back to the Car in 1:01:21...
a key to my new PR was that i only had to descend the uppermost third of the ski descent on ungroomed snow before picking up the silk tassel (great Canadian ice climb!) of 30-second old cord which then became my ribbon of speed as i made like Franz Klammer to the bottom, smashing my old record by nearly 3 minutes and that even included a Pranayam up at the top!

my threshold fitness is ready.

having survived a 42k, high-altitude nordic marathon last month that featured 5,000' of climbing, i figure my endurance will also be okay for the (hopefully less than) 5 hours i'll be out there, this Saturday.

my goals are three-fold:
1) crack the top 20 overall (22nd last year)
2) age group podium (5th in AG last year)
3) break 5 friggin' hours (5:01:14 last year, finishing my uphill events in:3:09:23

- last year; seeing God on the 5-mile, 1,200' Run Course
08 stats:
Run Up = 1:01
Run Down = 48:23

last year, i was 22nd overall. i lost three places because of having to stop 4 times
to vent the severe back/hip pain during the Run Up and Run Down. the concussion of those 10 miles of running mixed in with all the other disciplines just kills my back.

this year, i REALLY would love not to have to stop at all. however, that will be up to Vishnu.

i've picked my ski wax...shhhh; Swix HF 8 into FC 7. having the fastest ski descent at Mt. Taylor, i rarely miss the wax, yet that's what makes this GrandDaddy of all Winter MultiSport so special; you just never know what Race Day will bring in terms of weather. i've raced this event through hypothermic blizzards and sunny drought years where they've had to shovel in snow to keep the Ski Down Course intact.

- last year on the 13-mile, 5,000' Bike Course
08 stats:
Bike Up = 1:02
Bike Down = 37:07

my confidence tanks at the Bike.
i've not stepped into pedals for a month and before that? can't recall.
my Bike Fitness is what this New Daddy had to sacrifice. i'll rely on my experience.
and, perhaps just the novelty of being on a bike will help fire my tapas.
last year, i didn't ride too much and pretty much kept pace with the main chase group.
i'm visualizing repeating that for the Bike Up.
the Bike Down is going to be really windy this year...even moreso than the traditional hurricane gusts which typically plague the fatigued racers as we crank back to Grants and the Finish Line. fortunately, i've got a heaping helping of HP Yoga in my physical and spiritual quiver...and that's gonna keep my back flat, my position aero and my breath full of verve.

Mt. Taylor abides not standards of perfection.

What she extracts from anyone who dares to Solo this 4-sport, 75-kilometer race from desert cactus to her wind-whipped 11,311' summit is spiritual poise.

i could flat at two miles into this thing...i gotta be okay with that. as i've tried to Teach you all these years, "The way to win is to make it okay to lose." Just remember, i created that quote in the seventies, when extreme mountaineering and free soloing ice and rock climbs was my gig. i had to make it okay to lose my life, in order to free climb to the highest and most difficult summits. that's why i consider all other sports besides the Death Sport to be kindy-garten. so what if i flat at two miles into Mt. Taylor? if i was a mountaineer and 'flatted"...i'd be dead.

it has taken and will take an absolutely Herculean effort from me this year just to toe that Start Line before Tsidool's overlooked beauty.

all i know is that whenever i test my yoga within the throne of the Turquoise Mountain Gods, it affords the greatest natural, inner show i know.

sure would like to see more of my Students...YOU on that Start Line. when i first raced this thing back when the whole field was 60 athletes instead of 600, i figured by the time i was 40, i'd be doing this event with an entire Sangha around me, collectively taking pilgrimage. i'm forty six now, and i think only Noble HP Yogis Jut and Timari are signed up to help me represent WF. so, put this event on your Pilgrimage calendar and we'll share the Sacred Cold Sweat together, okay?

i'll update you as soon as i return.

from wherever you are,
send your ol' coach
a chi hit this Saturday...
i'll feel it...
all the way up, and
down
the Sacred Tsidool.

May you too, put it all in this weekend...
