Diné crankin' to Higher Than Ever Summits...

WF Devotee, Single Dad, Native Runner Warrior "Leaf" (Tribal Nickname; Diné) enjoys some
bouldering at Priest Draw near Flagstaff. He didn't tell me that later fact, i can just tell... ;-)
his email to me today below:

Yah' tah' hey' from the sacred peak of the west!

i received the first arrow of the dreamspeak quiver and greatly thank you. Combined with the TBT i've managed to create a workout that best suits my single-parent lifestyle. Packed full of chi it's like you never left Kinlani*!

As for my recent adventure to the "old oraibi footrace" i once again experienced some medicinal-sweat. Along with me were my 2 sons tavian & zane and my good friend ben from phoenix. As a warrior-father i ran the 2 mile race with tavian and it was deeply moving to see my son run up and down the mesa. Also deeply moving and ever-inspiring was to observe him roam around the finish line with his race-bib on. Got to say that of all the fatherly-duties i experience with my sons, the exposure of a WF lifestyle to them is quite nourishing for my being. Running through the thick sand, hum-sahing out loud along side of him, nothing but pure chi!

This evening i managed to deter from our usual evening ritual of going straight home and headed for some boulders. enjoy these as they were inspired out of a WF lifestyle!

p.s. can you offer any basic-bouldering techniques that i can practice?

COACH RESPONDS:

Most Treasured Diné,
looks like,
feels like,
rejoices-within-my-Soul like you are doing JUST FINE!!!

head bowed to your Father Warriorism and selflessness at the most Precious Footrace Of Turtle Island. i know you could have podium'd were it not for your Higher Choice of running with your son; May All Daddies Be Thus Inspired!

as for climbing:
looks like from that pic you are a natural!
keep your hips away from the rock,
look down at your footwork more than you look up,
and TRUST THE BREATH! just like in our HP Yoga sessions!

Pumping Limestone...in this Dance? Let the (rad) Girls Lead!

click on pics to enlarge the Chi Hit...

i was stoked just to make it to the crux! ilg attempting the first roof of 'Par Six' 5.11b. to think that i was used to free solo routes approaching this difficulty stoned my mind; definitely a different lifetime ago within this same one...

Let's see here if i've taken the WF Curriculum correctly:

last Saturday and Sunday =
humbled in a 2-Day, 3 Event road cycling stage race

Monday =
humbled by beautiful students while teaching an HP Yoga Slow Flow

Tuesday =
experience involuntary anal sphincter contraction while on 1,800' Mountain Bike ride...humbled again.

Wednesday =
mind-and-forearm numbingly humbled on overhanging limestone sport crag, The Golf Wall...then immediately go teach an HP PROP Workout

yup;
ilg must be back in Durango...

come on...tie in with me and the girlie girls as they drag my fat carcass up the overhanging Leadville Limestone crag 20 minutes north of Durango, known as The Golf Wall...

these Durangatang chicks are the real deal...that is Kelly on the left; unfathomably strong and a Rolfer to boot. Keeton, in the yellow, is the m(om) of Mason, 20 months old and a playmate of Dewa. Keeton and her husband Nate, own Southwest Adventure Guides...

Keeton belays me on "Tee'd Off" a 5.10c/d which i managed to slobber my way up...both girls knew i was dusting off about 15 years of climbing rust. they showered me with encouragement and said they were very impressed by my effort...they were just being nice, trust me.

Hip Mamma Keeton, crankin'...

Along This Trail...RAM!

a Ram-drunk ilg, yesterday, at Durango's local climbing crag; X-Rock area

on Saturday, the Gods smiled.
They allowed me to win the KOM at the top of Hesperus in the "B" Group club ride,
and 48.5 miles and 2,460' later, finish 6th in the 45 mph+ descent down Wildcat Canyon back to Durango. ilg didn't win the KOM (King of Mountain) because i was the most powerful or strongest climber among the 13 road-cycling warriors...not even close. ilg won because of tactics and wise discrimination and experience. i ninja'd the two leaders 300 meters from the summit by literally doing a pranayam and blowing myself as light as possible up the infamous, heart-withering climb which has long been a weekly test-piece for locals...

on Sunday, the Gods smiled again...
this time, not upon a road biking ilg, rather, in a categorically diverse
path of of sacred sweat...oh!!! how Blessed the Path of Wholeness...to play our physiologic capacities among God's wild toys and ways...

The Bantu Journals; A Day In Court

time for another check in with WF-Student Sponsored world-class mountaineer; Andrew "Bantu" Frost as he trains for a May ascent of the Denali Diamond on Mt. McKinley...click on pics to receive a thudding chi hit...

"Over the years, I have learned many things about feet. You must have patience with them. You must have faith that they will carry you where you point them. It sometimes takes longer than you want it to. But if you are calm, and respect your feet, they will help you go anywhere. They are like two beautiful horses. Some men beat their horses to get them to go faster. The horses strain and spit, race, and finally stumble in their fear and flying lather. But horses hardly ever fall when you whisper to them; they'll take you gracefully where you're going."
- "Bantu"

World Class Climber and HP Yoga Student ABF; "My battle with my ego..."

In today’s highly interdependent world, individuals and nations can no longer resolve many of their problems by themselves. We need one another. We must therefore develop a sense of universal responsibility . . . It is our collective and individual responsibility to protect and nurture the global family, to support its weaker members, and to preserve and tend to the environment in which we all live.

THE DALAI LAMA

Dear Coach,
Friends and I climbed two of the routes on Mt. Hayden before I ran back across that Grand Ditch last evening, and, pushing it up to the South Rim - legs cramping - "hum-sa" (the breath-induced mantra learned from HP Yoga PROP WORKOUT Classes!) bore me aloft, from within. Thanks you for the lessons. I'm using them to learn even more.

The photo above shows our approach into Mt. Hayden, from the Point Imperial lookout on the North Rim, which is one of the shortest for a "summit" in the Grand Canyon, requiring a descent of only 1 - 1 1/2 hrs. and 1200 vert. ft. of dense cat claw acacia. The way out, of course, is a bit longer.

I led the 3 pitches of Pegasus, a classic 10+(++) put up by Flagstaff hardmen Paul Davidson and Jim Haisely in June of '82.... And then my friend Zach led the three pitches of the N. Face route which comes in at 9+/10-....

Zach and my friend Eric (the other fellow in attendance) stayed on at the North Rim to ride part of the Rainbow Rim trail today while I descended back into El Grande Ditch to meet the Dragon there and to get back to my family more quickly. C. gave me a ride home, thank god. I was in no shape to drive...

My battle with my ego is continuous and trying; what matters, I think, is the light which escapes me when I am in the depths of my pain. And the light which fills me again, which I carry back to those I love.

The other day, while running the Peaks, I came across a man at the Humphreys/Aggasiz saddle. As I ran by, he asked, "What are you training for?"

A few years ago, it would have been some triathlon or another. But now, ...
