Keeping Coach's (Dharma) Wheel...do you got what it takes?

a word to the wise seekers of wholeness; use my monthly Practice Stats as inspiration, NOT as guidelines...i'll even spot you my age and being a new daddy...my Message is wholeness; not competition. don't try to compete with my Practice Stats just enjoy your own version of Wholistic Fitness® as she unfolds before your regular attempts at sweat and stillness...
self photo this morning of Dewa and Abba by Dewa and Abba.

Coach's Practice Stats for June:

races: none - right hip healing from crash in May...didn't dampen my Practice, only deepened it. to wit:

strength training hours:
6.75

cardio training hours:
43

asana hours:
27

meditation hours:
19.5

average calories per day:
1760

note
; Do NOT attempt to mimic these numbers on such a low caloric intake!
i have been on SUNRIDER Herbs and MAP Amino Acids and Pranayama many, many years if not decades longer than you and you will get injured if you attempt to physically keep up with my numbers while on such low kcals per day!

Practice Stats for April

keeping the hips open while competing at podium levels in endurance sports at national levels...
not such an easy yoga is WF!
ilg in floating full lotus as captured by www.JamesQMartin.com

If WF is about anything, it's about cultivating a humble, yet practical and fiercely determined individual Personal Path which uses daily life as spiritual Practice.

note that i wrote "daily life" instead of merely fitness or sport performance...both of which are simply by-products from the intensely transformative lifestyle principles and teachings of WF.

unencumbered by fixations or attachments upon religious, political, racial, cultural, or even fitness affiliation, WF graces upon her practitioners a keen and ever-deepening sense of the Everyday Sacred. a simple click on any of our Path's precious previous posts wipes away any sense of pretense, commercialism, or attachment to body-oriented fitness schemes which is pandemic during this apex in our Kali Yuga epoch.

i loved using 'apex' and 'epoch' in the same sentence just now.

ilg winced and had to breathe deeply when using 'i' in the above sentence.

let ilg ask the far more intellectual Thee:
how does one write in public without using "I" or "me" or "mine"
when ones spiritual work is all about destroying, deconstructing, demolishing
the
"I" or "me" or "mine"
?

send your answers to me in the ever effervescent WF SanghaLounge: DL Cave.

thank you!

now:
thighs and biceps still quivering in Sacred Sweatisfaction (yes, that is another ilg word) from an evening trail run/bouldering session within the pranic punchbowl known as evening Brahmamuhurti (the hour of God) on Animas Mountain.

as Grandfather skimmed His giving Light like a fatigued skipping stone across Ponderosa pine needles and still naked Gambel Oak limbs, ilg cavorted upon the silky sandstone boulders which have been my Blessed lifelong friend.
not as nimble, nor as strong as once ilg was,
yet,
the sweatisfaction
was as serene as a forward fold after a backbend at the end of an asana session.

***

ilg does not post these often, yet, ilg figgered that his Precious Sangha might be interested in how well i was able to keep my WF Practices intact during a month whereupon the intensely complicated energetics of moving into a new home with a 2 year-young, squeaking onto a podium without much specific training at all, beginning a new yoga program in a local facility, and having serious sewage issues rampage our new home, while attempting to launch an whole new vastly enhanced website (coming soon!).

well, my life is an open-book (hopefully helping others along the Higher Way, however feebly):
let's see how ilg did:

ILG's APRIL PRACTICE STATS:
strength training hours: 9.75

cardio hours: 36.75

asana hours: 36

meditation hours: 23.75

total calories: 52604 (average of: 1,753 kcals/day)

Podiums: 5th place AG; Sqauwker Stage Race: 6th in Time Trial, 9th in Crit, 6th in Road Race

so,
how did your feeble coach stack up?
is ilg still walking his Talk after, uh, 3+ decades of going public?

if you'd enjoy having Coach in your Corner

and in the meanwhile: go(o)d luck keeping up with your feeble coach!

Tracking Ilg; on the web, monthly stats, and 3 Q&A's

tracking an ilg requires versatility, forbearance, and a 'whole' ton of focused fun...

Three Questions To Coach:

#1:
Dear Coach,
thanks to your inspiration, i'm focusing on 'attacking my weaknesses' like never before.
i have A LOT of weaknesses.
beginning with coffee.
i need like 3 cups per day...
what can i do?

Coach Answers:

drink Folgers! *

#2:
Dear Guruji,
how do you do what you do
for as long as you have done it?

Coach Answers:

have you ever even read the ingredients of Quinary?! **

***

#3:
Dearest Teacher,
the Message of Wholeness that you are trying to Teach seems
lost to an iPod-and-entertainment addicted
eon...
what keeps you so convicted upon your Path of Wholeness?

Coach Answers:

the Grace of the Divine Mother
and the Love of those few who
travel our precious Path.
in a way a candle lights the darkest cave,
those of us that see the Light of
Wholistic Fitness®
see and feel
the spiritual ignorance of Kali Yuga.
feeling and seeing such spiritual ignorance among the masses
is a great Blessing
for it shifts with sudden power
external motivation into internal motivation
and sets the stage for Divine Motivation.

* - what we think Coach jestfully means is that many people who know they need to cut down on their coffee consumption still drink too 'tasty' of coffees. it's easier to drive less for pleasure when your vehicle is an ox-cart rather than a Porsche.

** - Quinary is a foundational whole-food herbal formula from SUNRIDER Herbs, the official Herbs of Wholistic Fitness® since 1983. Quinary is designed to nourish and balance the Five Major Organ Systems of the body and contains an unmatched profile and concentration and enhancement of over 50 different whole-food herbs.

Oh, sure January was another great month for the ol' WF Creator to walk his talk; qualifying for Nationals, cranking Nordic Ski Marathons, busting through technique plateaus in tele skiing, creating more Champions in my coaching...however, without a doubt the Highest High of January was the ever-growing Radiance of my Lotus-Eyed BuddhaFull Girl; Dewa! And truly, it's Dewa's mommy that is being the Champion around this house full of Champions! To truly love your baby? Love and care for her mother...

I know i load DL with a lot of spirit for all of us to have our Atman's munch upon...however, the thing i love MOST about our Tribe? our Monthly Practice Stats reveal the Sweat that drives the Spirit Higher!...

check these out and let's keep it cranking toward Enlightenment THROUGH the intelligently trained, versatile, and deeply functional body!

The Coach That Still Does: DECEMBER's PRACTICE STATS are IN!

Whenever there is a "ROAD CLOSED" sign blocking the entrance to a forest road, then chances are likely that the true reality of the sign is that it is a Winter Warrior's Gateway into a most Blessed Outdoor Yoga Studio of Silence and Cold Sweat. This portal is only a few minutes from my front door. Quick access to quality winter training grounds for snowshoeing, nordic, and alpine terrain is vital to even come close to my Practice Stats below. Just as an actor must move to LA if she or he really wants to break into 'The Business', so too the mountain yogi must move to areas where the Prana gushes forth from high altitudes in order to sustain the imperative training of the subtle anatomical fitness along with the more elementary physical fitness training. photo from my cell phone before a 2-hour snowshoe workout; Wing Mountain FR 222.

LEGEND:
ST = Strength Training
CV = Cardio Training
Y = Yoga (asana)
M = Meditation (includes Pranayama)
N = Nutrition

December is a crux month for a Winter Athlete. with no racing on the schedule, it is crack down time for instilling devoted on-snow training with little room for inconsistency. Winter endurance sports are the most brutal on this plane(t) and without a completely focused mindset and firm dedication during this month of holiday distractions (not to mention a 3-month old baby), each day required drawing the Warrior Sword of Manjushree-like passion for lifelong Practice.

I am very pleased and confident going into my Winter Racing Season with my New Daddy Practice Stats during this month. i managed to ski, snowboard, or snowshoe 13 out of 31 days and nailed my extended-interval sessions (average HR above 165 for 1 hour) once per week while maintaining discipline to keep my other CV Practice Sessions within Zone 2ish. Just the past week i started short/power/speed interval sessions.

NOTE:
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPEAT THE FOLLOWING MATHEMATICS OF MY TRAINING! YOU WILL GET INJURED AND/OR OTHERWISE PUT THE KIBOSH ON YOUR OWN NATURAL PROGRESSION! THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IN MY EXTREMELY LOW CALORIC INTAKE VS. CALORIC EXPENDITURE; I CAN ONLY PULL OFF SUCH NUMBERS SAFELY DUE TO 20+ YEARS OF DOING SUNRIDER HERBS, AMINO ACID SUPPLEMENTATION, AND MOST OF ALL MY YOGIC PRANAYAMIC PRACTICES! I REPEAT; I PUBLICLY POST THESE NUMBERS ONLY TO DL SUBSCRIBERS TO SERVE ONLY AS INSPIRATION FOR ALL 'AGING' AND 'NEW DADDIES' AND CHRONIC PAIN WARRIORS AND EVERYONE ELSE TO GET THEIR INNER DISCIPLINE CRANKED UP IN THE FACE OF OUTER WORLDLY CHALLENGES AND 'OBLIGATIONS.' THE ONLY TRUE OBLIGATION IS STEADFAST TRAINING FOR OUR BARDO ENTRY TO SERVE ALL HUMANITY BY WORKING TOWARD ENLIGHTENMENT.

MAY YOUR PRACTICE REMAIN STRONG AND SINCERE IN THE NEW YEAR...

Om So Ti,
coach ilg

MONTHLY PRACTICE STATS; Summer of 2007

Most Noble Sangha,
okay, yesterday was the poetry,
today? the PAIN!

below are my Monthly Practice Stats for July, August, and September.

i always wondered how my Practice would uphold if i had a baby.
others made it seem like having a baby completely destroys Abhyasa (Steadfast Practice).
so far, Dewa has only deepened my Practice in sacred, impossible to describe ways.

ironically enough, eleven days after Dewa was born i attained my
Fourth Overall Podium in Four Different Sports in the calendar year of 2007.
That's not Age Group victories, youngsters, Overall Podiums:

• January - 3rd Place Overall USSSA Western Regional Snowshoe Championships
• February - 1st Place Overall; Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon
• March - 1st Place Overall; Topaten Nordic High Altitude Ski Championships (new Course Record)
• September - 3rd Place Overall; Flagstaff Marathon 10k

Clever, eh? Too bad such versatile fitness is overlooked by our Addicted to Sport Specificity world.
In fact, if my cycling season didn't suck so bad thanks to the ongoing asthma i gave myself at Topaten in March,
i maybe, just maybe could have squeaked out 5 Overall Podiums in 5 Different Sports in this calendar year.
i've pulled stunts like these throughout my life. i smile deeply when i recall when i once pulled off a Bodybuilding Podium and a 50k Mountain Running Race Podium; in the SAME MONTH! that is about as extreme a physiologic gap as a human athlete can bridge, at least in my opinion. so, yes, it feels very go(o)d to have had this banner year, my first such
one since my 10-year Dharma Mission in Los Angeles.

what makes my inner smile especially deep from this season of racing; is to have experienced and contributed to every step of the pre-natal, delivery, and post-natal Journey of my baby daughter during such a Wholistically Fit year. there was no trace of your typical obsessive/compulsive athlete in my season.

fact is; i love being a Wholistic Fitness athlete. i love being brave enough to let go of sport mastery to become a Beginner again in a new one throughout the year. i love being recognized as a cyclist by cyclists, a gym guy by gym guys, a skier by skiers, a climber by climbers, a yogi by yogis, a mountain runner by mountain runners...i like always showing up on their playing field and giving the Sport Specific addicts a run for their money. i only wish more of them would play the widespread (wholistic) game! it's lonely in a way, the Path of the WF athlete. however, the karmic, physiologic, emotive, and spiritual return on being a WF athlete instead of a Sport Specific athlete is far, far too much fun and merit-full to turn around walk downstream, along with the ego-strengthening current of the Discipline-Specific 'main-stream'. ilg prefers his little tributary of Wholistic Fitness and the body/mind symmetry and balance she imparts.

the slight dip in Cardio Hours during the month Dewa was born (September), is due to
getting off the bike -which requires longer training hours - and into mountain running and inline Ski Skate mode which mandate less training hours, something that helps a new daddy warrior!

So, may these foot-tracks inspire your own Abhyasa
and may your insights from Direct Experience of Sweat and Stillness empower your ageless life...

head bowed,
the consistent one
