My Langaluf; Entry One
photos by my Beloved Ananda;
beware, the next few days of DL will deliver upon thee a deep WF effect, for the next few DL's will take you with me
right back to the the birthplace of WF; Durango, Colorado!
i know many of you know this guy; my outdoor endurance sports hero and honored to say, long-time friend, Ned "The Lung" Overend. World Mountain Bike Champion, 6-National MTB Champion, Multi X-Terra Champion, and well, i don't need to go further on my "fifty-something" old bro of the San Juans!
My point is, i know i am truly back h(om)e when - after 15 years - i come back to my Beloved San Juans (Southern Rocky Mountain chain) and i sign up for one of the most challenging athletic events of my childhood, The Durango Langlauf (länglouf; it's Old German; means "long ski race") and suddenly i am surrounded by Blessed and Auspicious Signs and sooooo much Sacred Love all around me. I am engulfed in an Blessed Ocean of emotional memories as I see my old ski coach's, friends, and mountain athlete peers.
For anyone who loves WF and her indescrible, seemingly unmarketable (thank God CHI FORCE, then, sit tight to DL for the next days, cuz i am back home in Durango and i raced today the 30k Langlauf at 9,000' and, well, to be gut honest with you, My Beloved Warriors of WF, i lost the fight of holding back my tears of Sacred Emotions...and this was BEFORE the Race even started!
In the next few days of DL, i want to introduce you to some of the very Roots of the go(o)d folk from which my spirit was steeped and transformed into WF. Here is an offical DL Tease:
Okay, you many of you know how many cycling champions live and train in Durango,
however, can you identify at least three National MTB Championships (along with myself) in this shot of our 30k Start at the Langlauf?
Here is a tasty morsel for those of you whom have actually READ my books instead of
looking at the pictures! Can you guess who this Teacher of mine might be?
Oh yeah, and the Results? Did i finish this brutally difficult race after spending over a decade in the smog and smuck of LA while my Durango bro's were training up in this Pranic Punchbowl of the mighty and majestic San Juans?
Sit tight, Noble Warrior, cuz you are about to be treated to sharing with me one of my most profound experiences and you will meet some of the oldest Chi Roots of WF.
i gotta go now, let's just say that i am deeply tired and deeply, deeply happy in so many Levels.
i will leave you with a few entries from my travel diary.
until we meet in the Silent Realms of Chi Intensity Within Our Molecules,

Coach Scores First Victory of '07 at Flag Winter Tri
"Racing is a privilege to the genuine yogi. It helps us train the mind in sustained concentration, acceptance of pain as purification, and prepares the subtle anatomy for deeper states of energetic transmission for Enlightenment. No true spiritual athlete can shortcut mastery of the body. Training the body wholistically is the First Base of all spiritual work for the body is the vehicle of the spirit. well, you start at the Cellular Level; in other words;
you better damn well watch what you eat,

and
embrace all challenges as a form of nutrition designed to make you stronger!
in this Path; we certainly have the most Accurate Nutritional Path available for you, a Path that has been proven to transform ANYONE because i have been coaching the same Nutritional Path for a quarter century. A Path that enables my faithful Students like Student L'Gate...
to come here to the Sacred Peak from NYC and absolutely step up to a FULL SERVING of Wholistic Fitness for two 12-hour days! more on that tomorrow in DL!
for now, i want to answer this basic "fan mail" letter for you because it is allWays important to revisit the Basics of the clean, Warrior Sharp and effective Path of WF Nutrition.

Hi coach Ilg. I have been reading your book Total Body Transformation, and I love it. I was wondering what your thought of Nutrilite all natural supplements like Double X? They are multi-vitamins. Do you think they would be a good thing to take or not. What is your advice? Thanks a lot!
Sincerely,
Fred C Jr.
Most Noble Fred,
thank you for your kind words!
in this Warrior Path, we don't really use any "supplements." We rely only upon two critical "nutritional weapons":
1) the "Secret Herbs" of SUNRIDER (for pranic field saturation, cell cleansing, cell empowerment, immunology, and overall regeneration)
and
2) BioBuilde® Amino Acids (for maintaining a Positive Nitrogen Balance to ensure lightening fast recovery and optimal training effect insurance).
i have been personally and professionally using SUNRIDER Herbs for 22 years and the BioBuilde® has been making a positive impact on myself and selected WF Students for nearly one year (it is a new product).
to gain access to still complimentary Guidance from me using either the SUNRIDER Herbs or the BioBuilde, you must use my

Hey Hey fellow WF persons,
i was not to sure of this Lounge when i started reading awhile back because the posts about the bike gears went way over my head. Thought maybe everybody was a top line athlete like Coach Ilg. Then as time went by and more people from around this world started to jump in i started to feel more like part of the family.
Started doing workouts from Coach Ilg after i found his WF book at about the time i was calling it quits on all physical activity and the diagnosis from the back doctor's tests confirmed that i was so close to the knife. i remember doing my first yoga poses a little over a year ago and the pain while doing the Warrior pose was right up there with the Gitmo techniques i thought.
The long and short of this is after completing the workout phases i am close to being a kid again. i am 56 years young. Two days ago while doing Joy's basic yoga DVD i was able to jump from the Downward Dog Pose up to my hands. Thought that ol body spring was long gone.
Now i am so close to starting my online classes with Coach Ilg as my personal trainer.
i am reading the Science Of Breath, which is really getting me psyched since Coach Ilg talks so much about the breath and meditation.
Life is good in Tacoma Wash.
Peace out

Coach-
Namaste! Finished the last workout of my pre-intensive cycle today. Don't know what you plan to throw at my this week, but I am as physically and mentally prepared as I can possibly be. Equanimity be damned - I am excited as hell for the next few days. Had a funny "Intensive anxiety" dream last night - you were holding up your little white board with "-6" written on it. When I asked what it was for, you said those were "negative karma points for not getting all of my update e-mails in on time"! I'll do my best to earn those points back this week.
See you Tuesday night at class. Love to Ananda.

Divine Will? The World is Illusion? ...i don't get it!
"To discover an Outer World, we must first recognize and establish some sort of a relationship with our Inner World. The key is development of sustained concentration." - coach ilg
above; WF Teacher Ananda sustains her concentration during vinyasa in 28-degree weather. the yogi must work hard to keep chipping away at overcoming Duality. a wise starting place is to develop even-mindedness during intense heat and cold. look for Ananda's new Teaching this week on the HP Yoga approach to 'Chaturanga' in her new Blog; The Joyful Breath:
Dear Coach,
you puzzle me. you jump from kickass hard core training like in your PROP DVD and all your racing to talking about God and all sorts of spiritual stuff that i just don't get. i have been trying to read the "Yoga Sutras' because of your TBT book, but i don't understand ANYTHING those cats are talking about and i am not sure that i even want to! all this stuff about Divine Will and that the "Outer World is only an illusion,' etc. I don't even understand what you mean when you talk about the "Outer World." and this bit about using fitness to "Strengthen our filaments of Consciousness for the Bardo" HUH?!?! Excuse me?
anyway, you got me thinking but i can't share ANY of your stuff with my training partners, they would think i am NUTS!

first; don't live your life for the opinions of others. promise yourself that much, okay?
to discover an Outer World, we must first recognize and establish some sort of a relationship with our Inner World. the Outer World is the world of changing forms (thus, it is termed by yogis as 'illusory'...now it's there, now it's not!).
this Spring, the snows which fell upon the Sacred Peak this week will melt. in time, Shiva (the Destructive guna of the universe) will even wither away or erupt the Sacred Peak into something else. not even Mountains live forever. such are the Ways of the Outer World.
the Inner World is beyond the reach of all this coming and going and is termed Atma or the "Self" by yogis. the challenge in understanding this is...

Greetings Coach,
Your inbox is probably full of students' spewing insights at you, but I can't resist recounting my experience last night. Driving, I listened to a 2-hour interview with the late Aldous Huxley covering one of my favorite topics - opening the doorway to mystical experience of the divine through various means. He opened the lecture with a profound question - why do cultures around the world and throughout history value 'precious stones?' They have absolutely no intrinsic value.
One possiblilty he offered might be that these stones, cut, polished and mounted, achieve a state of permanent beauty unattainable by the human body. What could last longer that a precious stone?
The only thing I could think of that lasts longer than a stone is . . . a mountain. Immediately I envisioned coach climbing that mountain - a temporal act interaction with the eternal.
The next possiblilty offered is that precious stones, gems, stained glass, etc. all mirror the visuals associated with the experience of at-one-ment with the divine. Again, across cultures and time, mystical experiences share the vision of light, color, and precious jewels. And again, I envisioned the divine awakening aroused by yoga, exercise, WF . . .
Then, I put in another cd . . . Stream Entry . . . and listened to coach saying the same thing, and more. I really, really was moved by the way he frames exercise, fitness, discipline and the other lifestyle prinicipals as a metaphor for the spiritual path. Really great stuff.
Thanks so much to both of you for reminding me where the doorway is and that all I have to do is open it. WF might just be the key for me.
Blessings from the High Desert,
bg

photo; eventually, all WF Students practice Pranayams each day in the ongoing effort to stabilize our mind, develop equanimity of body and mind, and attempt to gain control of vayu (inner currents of prana or chi). Professional Western Skeptics like the one in my story below, do not believe in such 'new agey' notions as pranic or chi development since the chi cannot be seen. if we don't believe in something we don't understand, why is it so hard for us understand our disbelief?
i know a very famous professional skeptic. you may have seen him on the tv. he makes a living going around the world and 'disproving' phenomena, miracles, and the such. he is quite proud that he does not believe in anything that cannot be scientifically proven.
honestly? i did not enjoy spending time around his energy. i came to know him through the ultra racing world. predictably, he was a ultra athlete. i say that because it is often the case that ultra athletes tend toward the narrow minded, hard, and, well, obsessive side of the Dance.
i was a keen and easy target for his sterility. "New agey, mumbo jumbo without discernible principle," is i think what he once called Wholistic Fitness.
he never commented however, on my race results in physiologically diverse sport performances using WF principles. Rather he enjoyed broadcasting his doubt at my Teachings and WF.
only once did i take Time to engage him. it went something like this...

Moccasin Wisdom
Moccasin Wisdom
by coach steve ilg, cpt/ryt/uscf
"Do not judge another man until you have walked a mile in his moccasins."
- Native American saying
Do you deserve your Pain? You might be surprised at the answer.
How long has it been since you performed an UnAssisted Shoe Placement and Removal? The WF Master Student never uses chairs, beds, or walls to put on or take off their shoes. Leave it to Wholistic Fitness to climb into every compartment of our life that we have chosen to ignore (thus accumulating avidya). photo; coach ilg, one of Turtle Islands most prolific and enthusiastic promoters of the Yogi Squat, still relies each day upon this ancient, tribal movement as a form of an interactive 'wheelchair' to vent his chronic lower back and pelvic Pain from a mountaineering 'accident.'
You can tell a lot about someone by the manner in which he (or she) puts on their moccasins.
When was the last time you performed an Unassisted Shoe Putting On, or for that matter, an Unassisted Shoe Taking Off? Below, I am going to ask you to explore the harmful repercussions of living in a Shoe Addicted Society.
Most of us have lower back and pelvic imbalances which are the Root Cause of most, if not all, our afflictions.
What we might not be as quick to Realize the Real-Lie of our Pain.
Okay, I will give it to you straight up. Hold on, cuz it is a jagged little pill along the Path of Awakening...

6&7) This was a Bardo Training Moment for Shawna and, for me, is what Sealed The Deal for her Master Student Inka; that woman from the Flatlands came up to the Sacred Peak, instilled the WF Sacred Mantra at 9,500' and with One Pointed Mind and Arrow Like Spirit, this amazing Being did not stop until my Direction to stop at the "Logjam" Sign over a 1,000' higher! Not only did she carry out her Coach's instructions without one ounce of whining or doubt in her Capacity, she chanted her way into a final, all out, Zone 5 SPRINT for the Logjam Sign! This Beautiful Being will soar through the Bardo Realms if, by some chance which looks pretty small, she does not reach all out Enlightenment in this lifetime! photo, coach.

My December Practice Stats; of Pranic Reliance and conquering the need of Motivation
Oh, i know, the excuses for losing Abhyasa (steadfast Practice) during the holidays are old, predictable, and so easily justified.
There are the family get togethers,
pressing work projects that need finishing (like the post production work on my new DVD!),
and preparation of All Things (particularly SKIING!).
However, the WF Warrior's Practice remains unfluttered by such paltry excuses for even if we lose a few physical fitness disciplines by the wayside, we remain focused and utterly devoted to what matters most in a WF life; the LifeStyle Principles. We are trained to cultivate our Workout Everywhere via Conscious Breath & Posture, Mindfulness, Appropriate Action, and Practice. And, in doing so, we discover great Practice opportunities within the outer chaos of the holiday season.
Now, the conventionally minded Fitness Sheep might think that if one was to defend a Course Record at a Winter Quadrathlon in a few more weeks as am i, one should ramp up their CardioVascular Volume and Intensity in order to be ready to Defend their title.
Not me. My Cardio volumes in Dec. went down (see chart below).
What did i elevate? Yoga and Meditation.
As a Podium Topper for over a quarter century using WF Training, i know well by now that it matters little how frail my Cardio Hours are compared to the Sport Specific Sheep. why am i so confident of WF Training? because i know that my WF Training is bringing to me the most potent weaponry that any athlete can bring to the Start Line; A Conscious and Controllable Mind.
Most athletes spend the bulk of their training time unconscious of the Divine, unaware of how to regulate the Pranic Flows in their bodies.
The conventional minded athlete still relies on that old fashioned Muscle and Oxygen system. They are like Blind Men feeling an...
